Continuous Online Backup

The Most Effective Way to Back Up Your Files

Continuous Backup means that Data Deposit Box is always watching your files; always looking for changes. Whenever a change is detected, our backup engine immediately extracts the changes, compresses them, encrypts them, and securely transfers them to our data center.

What's Wrong with a Scheduled Backup?

Most online backup tools are based on the concept of a scheduled backup. Scheduling means that the PC has to be online and running when the backup happens. An administrator may set the backup to happen at 8:00pm every night. If your PC is shut down at 8:00pm, your backup fails and you have to wait for the next schedule to kick in.

If you're busy working on your PC when the schedule kicks in, the backup will make your PC seem slow. Most people will just click "Cancel" and that will be another missed backup. You can always run the backup manually later. But that's just one more thing you have to remember to do.

Continuous Backup is Better

Instead of one big backup at the end of the day, we do many tiny backups throughout the day. Smaller backups happen faster. In fact you'll probably never notice them running. Since there is no schedule to miss, you will never miss an opportunity to have your files backed up.

Interruptible Backup

Performing even a small backup while you are using your PC runs the chance of making your PC seem slow. For this reason, our backup will suspend while your PC is in use. We do this by monitoring our mouse and keyboard for activity. If we detect you are using your PC, we pause and wait until you are finished.

If you pick up the phone and stop typing, our backup engine will resume and continue to process your backups. As soon as you start typing again, we will pause again. Our engine can stop and start as often as necessary. It simply continues where it left off. No work is lost. Phone calls; meetings; even a short trip to the coffee maker; all create opportunities to perform your backup.

Bandwidth & Resource Throttle

Data Deposit Box includes the ability to limit the amount of bandwidth the backup can use. This is critical in a small office environment where several PCs share an Internet connection.

Internet backup services can easily saturate an Internet connection. If one user is running a backup, the web surfing and email of the other users can grind to a halt. Video conferencing and voice over IP telephony technology are very sensitive to this. This is why other backup providers schedule their backups to happen at night.

With Data Deposit Box, you have the ability to limit the amount of bandwidth used for backup by each PC. With a simple adjustment you can tell it to use only a percentage of the available bandwidth. The throttle also controls the amount of computing resources used on your local PC.

Our patent pending throttle ensures that your data gets backed up without adversely affecting your coworkers.
